Psychedlic MO Conference

Psychedelic Missouri Freedom Conference

October 21, 2023 • 10am-6pm

Psychedelics reform is on the agenda in October at St. Louis' first annual Psychedelic Missouri Freedom Conference in Brentwood.

While studies from Johns-Hopkins University have shown that consuming psychedelics such as psilocybin, the psychoactive compound in “magic mushrooms,” has relieved depression in adults, the studies conducted in Washington University's research program leverage world-class expertise in clinical trial design, human neuroimaging and pre-clinical science to understand how psychedelic medicines change the human brain. Wash U's research will lead to the next generation of safer and more effective treatments for psychiatric illness.

Paramount to the extension of the therapeutic benefits of these drugs is the set and setting in which the therapy transpires. The set (one's mindset) and setting (physical environment) is a term which refers to the psychological, social, and cultural parameters which shape the response to psychedelic drugs. Set and setting is found in a yoga space too. I create safe environments for students to engage internally and recognize aspects of themselves. Students are gifted the opportunity to pause and center in stillness and reflection with breath work and grounding exercises. These exercises work so well at rooting you in the present moment, because they put you into your prefrontal cortex, which is the highly developed part of the brain responsible for cognitive control functions and therefore influences attention, impulse inhibition, memory, and cognitive flexibility, and helps regulate emotions.

I'll be guiding a brief breath work and centering practice at this inaugural conference.
